About Tempus Fugitives & David Kelly
This is the online presence for Tempus Fugitives, which is to say, the music of San Jose based singer-songwriter David Kelly (that would be me, actually). My fixation on guitars started with my older brother playing when I was a kid, but more importantly, when a friend taught me Michael Row the Boat Ashore on a YMCA camping trip when I was 12. I begged and groveled to my parents, who got me my first guitar that Christmas.
I never had much confidence in my playing or singing, so it was relatively late in life when I joined my first band and was required to sing a few tunes in addition to slamming away on rhythm guitar. No one was more surprised than I was to discover that I enjoyed the singing part (of course I loved the guitar playing). So a monster was created. It led to a fixation on songwriting, which I have been doing for several years.
Songwriting led to producing, recording, mixing, and mastering four self-produced CDs of original tunes, plus a stack of singles. A “greatest hits” package featuring tunes from all four albums is available on all of the streaming sites - search for “Tempus Fugitives” and you'll find Lock Up Your Daughters. And there you are!
And my songwriting led to my joining Double Down Time - Julia Veil, Lisa Rutta, and Brian Shimada - to play roots, blues, and cabaret tunes in the Bay Area. Gaps in Double Down Time's schedule has led to my playing solo and duo acoustic gigs. No idea how it happened, but this music thing has really taken on a life of its own!
